The world is in flux. Communities are struggling, exacerbated by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. In such volatile times, where governmental support is only a band-aid for deep rooted problems, we all need to do our part to help those around us.
As Allah says in the Quran, “Give wealth, in spite of love for it…” (2:177). With so many people struggling to make ends meet, let’s look at a few ways we can be charitable and support our equals in humanity.
Look through your closet
With the influx of Afghan refugees coming to the United States, now is a good time to go through your closet and take out the lightly used clothes you always pass over. Some Afghan refugees are making their way to the US after having left their homes in a rush and could use new or lightly used clothes, houseware items, shoes, jackets, toys, and books. A quick google search should help you connect with local organizations supporting Afghans in your area.
Give your time
When it comes to charity, most people think of things or money. Did you know that giving your time is also considered charity? To make the biggest impact, think about causes you’re passionate about and look for opportunities where you can donate your time. Charitable work can be difficult and draining so focusing on your passions will keep you motivated and help avoid burnout. Volunteer with Infaaq here.
